A website handover often includes a long document that the next editor opens once. The problem is not a lack of effort. It is that the instructions live somewhere else.
Keep instructions close to the task
A note beside the page editor can explain which heading should stay unchanged, where an image comes from, or what to check before publishing. Keep it specific to that page.
Useful notes answer questions: Who updates this? What can safely change? What should be checked after an edit? Where does the information come from?
A simple handover checklist
- Explain the purpose of the page in one sentence.
- Name the content that needs regular review.
- Identify links or sections other pages depend on.
- Add a short before-publishing checklist.
- Keep private operating instructions out of public page content.
Use notes for context, not secrets
Private editor notes are useful for process. They are not a password manager. Do not store hosting passwords, API keys, payment information or customer data in page notes.
Jeet Handover Notes was built around this small workflow. The goal is less searching and fewer avoidable mistakes, with a clear boundary between instructions and published content.
